AAA offers travel tips for those driving during Tropical Storm Isaias – News 12 Bronx

Steady rain is already hitting parts of the Bronx, and It is expected to get worse as Isaias heads toward the tri-state area.

As of 7 a.m., road conditions were already poor in parts of Throgs Neck. Officials are urging people to stay home, but are warning commuters to plan for difficult travel if they have to go out.

Drivers need to make sure they have a full tank of gas in case electricity goes out or they have to evacuate due to heavy flooding.

AAA says people should not park near trees, power lines or tall objects that could fall during strong wind and heavy rain. They also say that drivers should use their emergency flashers and low beams during heavy rain so all drivers can see the road better.

Officials also say to avoid driving through a flooded road to prevent serious damage to your vehicle. About 12 to 18 inches of water can make a car float.

Residents should also have a bag with food and an emergency kit in case they get stranded.
